CDC Makes Sure Your Contact Lenses Are Clean

In the event of last week’s discovery that the majority of Americans are not treating their contact lenses with as much care as they should, the CDC is going to provide an overview of how to do things right. It is a rather educational program which will ensure that the appropriate information has been distributed so that people who use contact lenses do not endanger their eyes anymore.

The recent CDC study has concluded that not only do more than half of the American people using contact lenses avoid washing them, but they also undergo certain activities that result in eye infections and bacteria spreading such as swimming with contact lenses or sleeping with them. Moreover, some people are cleaning contact lenses with tap water which, again, is not something advisable.

Actively cleaning contact lenses appropriately ensures that the quality of the lenses remains high at all times but, more important than that, it means that you are going to keep your eyes healthy, avoiding the need to go to a doctor for a problem that could have been easily avoided with an extra 5 minute care every day.

If you want to keep your contact lenses as clean as possible, you have two major options: you either choose multipurpose solutions or hydrogen peroxide solutions. Each one is used for different purposes, but applying them correctly will bring you long-term benefits that you will later recognize.

The most beneficial choice is picking up the multipurpose solutions. Why? Because you can use the same solution for a variety of lens-cleaning activities: you can rinse, clean, disinfect and store your contact lenses. If you are interested in acquiring multipurpose solutions, you can most easily get them via 1-800 Contacts for lens care.

The exact cleaning method works as follows: first you should wash your hands before starting to work with your lenses. Then you should splash solution drops onto your hands and proceed by placing lenses on them. As you rub the lenses, use small circles and ensure that you clean them on both sides. Once you are done rubbing, rinse them with solution. You should do all of these daily.

There are, obviously, extra steps that you want to take if you want to keep your contacts clean and your eyes healthy: always change the solution after you rinse the contact lese (never use the same one two days in a row), you can use saline solutions for rinsing, but don’t use them for disinfecting or cleaning and remember not to apply freshly rinsed contacts to your eyes.

If you are going to follow these steps every day, you will never have issues with your contact lenses every again. And remember: do not swim or sleep with your lenses. That is also bad for you.
