The CHS or Carolinas HealthCare System visitor restrictions will reportedly stop being applied starting with April 18th. The Novant Health, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, and the Cone Health will also be lifting their restrictions.
The CHS initially imposed a series of visiting restrictions to children aged 12 or younger back on February 24th. It did so based on the sudden increase in flu-related illnesses in the medical facilities. Dr. Neelakanta stated that they decided on this age threshold based on the fact that young children are somewhat more susceptible to contracting and spreading illnesses.
The CHS Decided To Impose The Restrictions Following A Surge Of Flu-Like Symptoms
Dr. Anupama Neelakanta, an infectious disease specialist, is part of the Carolina’s HealthCare System-Cleveland. She stated the CHS has been monitoring the number of flu cases ever since the restrictions first started being applied. As such, the hospital also noted the decline in patients with flu-like symptoms. Eventually, this led to the decision to drop the visiting limitations.
“The restrictions were definitely effective. […] This helped to put that check in place and make sure we’re keeping the patients and health care workers safe.”
The doctor also stated that the hospital will still keep track of the number of flu cases. It will do so until doctors can declare the flu season officially over. Also, the health authorities are asking for the visitors’ help. They are asking all visitors with flu-like symptoms, no matter their age, to refrain from visiting patients in the hospital. This can help prevent the spreading of the illness among those admitted.
Flu symptoms include a stuffy or runny nose, a sore throat or a cough as well as chills or fever. They may also include fatigue, nausea, body or headaches or pain, among others.
