Diclofenac holds anti-cancer properties, according to a research. The medicine is usually used to treat fevers, migraines and rheumatoid arthritis. Previous studies have shown that the anti-inflammatory medicine could prevent cancer, but this study claims that the drug could even have a vital role in curing cancer.
Diclofenac is a nonsteroidal drug that is usually taken in order to reduce an inflammation or a pain. Diclofenac is also used to treat chronic pain that is linked to cancer, especially if there is an inflammation present as well. The use of diclofenac for chronic pain is highly recommended by the World Health Organization. Diclofenac can also be used in combination with opioids. Diclofenac is also extremely useful in treating E.coli. Experiments done on mice have shown that diclofenac can also cure salmonella and future experiments will be done in order to see if it can cure tuberculosis as well. Diclofenac is one of the best tolerated drugs. 20% of the patients who take diclofenac on long terms experience side effects, but only 2% have to stop the diclofenac treatment, due to gastrointestinal issues.
The drug is also known as Cambia, Voltaren, Zipsor and Solaraze and is available worldwide, at an affordable price. The drug could cure cancer because it has positive effects on the development of blood vessels and on the immune system. According to a researcher from the Anticancer Fund, called Dr. Pan Pantziarka, scientists are amazed every time they discover amazing properties that a drug used every day for common pains has. He also said that the more research is being made, the more beneficial effects of common drugs are discovered.
The study was published on the ecancermedicalscience website and the researchers analyzed researches that went as back as 1983. They wanted to prove that diclofenac could fight the tumors, fibrosarcoma, neuroblastoma, colorectal cancer, ovarian cancer and other forms of cancer. They analyzed the medical records of cancer patients who were given diclofenac before undergoing tumor removing surgeries. These record showed that diclofenac reduced the patients mortality and reduced the risks the metastasis involved. At the moment, four clinical trials are occurring, that are trying to see the exact effects of the drug on the cancer patients. Another new drug that will combine four painkillers is being tested in those trials.
As the study showed that diclofenac holds anti-cancer properties, more studies will be done in order to properly see how the medicine works.
