EOS balm

A girl has developed a rash around her mouth after she applied the EOS lip balm.

The EOS lip balms are famous worldwide, and their colorful and unique packaging and the endorsement given to it by famous stars made it one of the most used lip balms. Even though everybody seems to love the product, EOS is now being sued for causing rashes.

On January 12, Rachael Cronin filed a lawsuit against the company. Apparently a few hours after she applied the lip balm, the product did the opposite of what is should have done and made her lips extremely dry. In an effort to try to smooth her coarse lips, she applied more lip balm and the symptoms just got worse. Then, Cronin took a picture to show the side effects of the balm and posted it on Facebook. The photo with the swollen mouth received a lot of responses, many people saying that the exact same thing happened to them. Even though that photo was removed from social media, the image was part of the lawsuit’s files.

Mark Geragos, who is Cronin’s lawyer said that she is asking for damages and a change of the product’s advertisement. EOS responded to the accusations, but they are sticking up for their product.  They said that their products are of high quality and that they are tested by experts before putting them on the market. They also claimed that their number one priority are their clients and that the millions of satisfied people around the world are the proof that the products is a very good one.

According to dermatologists, many things might have caused that rash like allergies, dry weather, a systemic disease, lip licking or excessive drooling. It is common for people to have allergies to some care products. Apparently, if a person has an allergic reaction to a product and then try to fix it using the same problem, the situations only worsens. People who are prone to have allergies should avoid using lip products which contain menthol, camphor or salicylic acid.

According to Dr. Marie Jhin, the photos of the rash indicated an allergic contact dermatitis. She also said that Vitamin E is one of the ingredients of the EOS balm and that could cause allergic reactions to some people and she suggests that the people who are allergic should avoid products with fragrances, beeswax and Vitamin E. Beeswax is an ingredient that can cause allergies, so make sure to look for the ingredients of o product before you buy it. Doctor Lauren Ploch said that people who develop allergies shouldn’t believe that the natural products won’t cause allergies. She said that we can be allergic to some oils just like we can be allergic to fruits or dairy, which are also natural. So even though EOS is now being sued for causing rashes, according to dermatologists, the reaction the girl had was only natural.
