According to a new study which the journal Human Reproduction recently published, women who eat more fast food have trouble getting pregnant, in comparison to those who eat more fruit and vegetables and who conceive more quickly. This is yet another piece of evidence that proves how important a balanced and healthy diet actually is. According to the team, women who ate fruit one time or less than one time a month took two weeks longer to conceive in comparison to those who ate fruit three times a day.
According to Jessica Grieger, the leader of the study, this only shows that healthy foods support conception, while this is not the case for unhealthy foods. As for the fact that some women only ate fruit once a month, she thinks it’s completely wrong and unacceptable. According to U.S guidelines, people should eat two to three servings of fruit each day. So, the fact that these women conceived naturally and without delays was completely normal. In order to reach this result, the team studied over 5,500 women in New Zeeland, Australia, Britain and Ireland. When the study began, they had never had a baby.
Fast food prevents a natural and easy conception
The study continued when the women were 15 weeks pregnant. The team asked them what specific foods they ate during that period. They also asked them when they began to try and conceive. It seems that the women who only ate fruit once a month and instead ate more fast food took two weeks more to become pregnant.
According to the team, fruit and vegetables clearly had an impact but for now, they are not sure about leafy vegetables or fish. It’s important to note that most of the women had an average weight and we about 28-years old. As for why fast food might affect fertility, experts think it’s because of the high levels of saturated fat.
