Google Home users can now control their Sony speakers and TVs through the Google Assistant.
After the launch of several personal home assistants like Amazon Echo’s Alexa or Google Home’s assistant, it seems that third-party companies are starting to develop new connected devices in order to create an entire smart home ecosystem around these AI assistants.
One such company is Sony, who has announced on Monday that through the newest firmware updates, Google Home owners are now able to use various voice controls to stream their preferred music and video content to several models of previous and new Sony speakers with built-in Chromecast as well as select Android TVs like the Sony 4K HDR.
Thanks to Google’s Multi-room group function, users are able to group supported Sony speakers with Google Home together in the app. This will enable users to play the same song through both Google Home as well as the Sony speakers using their mobile device or voice. More specifically, users can start several music streaming services such as YouTube Music, on which they can turn up the volume, skip a track, and other controls through voice commands.
Mike Fasulo, COO and President of Sony Electronics issued a statement emphasizing Sony’s commitment to customer choice by offering new and innovative technologies, the integrated functionality of Sony speakers and TVs with the Google assistant is one example.
The Sony speaker provides a comprehensive list of controls through the Google assistant. Users can issue a direct request from Google Home to play a specific type of music through the Sony speaker or a variety of video content on the Sony 4K TV. The Multi-room feature enables Google Home owners to group together their entire ecosystem of supported Sony speakers and TV, for a rich music or video experience throughout their entire house.
Google Home supports all Sony audio products with Chromecast built-in. Furthermore, all Sony Android TVs as well as 4K TVs support Google Home as well as provide a wide array of interactions through the Google assistant. Despite the fact that the Google Home users can start grouping their Sony devices together now, some service start dates and conditions may vary by country.
Are you a Google Home user? Do you have any type of Sony speakers and TVs or are you planning on buying one?
