A new research shows that healthy fats can help you live longer. For years, the doctors have advised people to cut on the unhealthy fats and to replace them with healthy one. These researchers believe that if people from all around the world would start to eat more healthy fats, more than one million deaths caused by heart disease could be avoided each year.
Even though many times the experts have advised people to decrease the amounts of unhealthy fats, these researchers believe that the best way to ensure your health is to replace the unhealthy fats with the ones that are healthy. According to the lead author of the study, Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian from the Tufts Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, approximately 50,000 Americans die each year because of their low in vegetable oils diets.
According to the American Heart Association the polyunsaturated fats can help decrease the risks of stroke and heart disease and they can lower the high levels of cholesterol. These healthy fats can be found in walnuts, sunflower seeds and oil, tofu, soybeans and soybean oil and in corn oil. Also, they can be found in fatty fish like trout, mackerel, salmon and herring. The polyunsaturated fats are healthy fats. The unhealthy fats are the saturated fats and the trans fats. Trans fats can be found in fried foods, baked foods and processed foods. Saturated fats can be found in dairy products and meat.
In order to see how many people die because of high consumption of unhealthy fats, the researchers collected data from 186 countries. Also, they analyzed previous research that focused on seeing if some fats can affect the risk of heart disease. The researchers discovered that more than 700,000 people die every year because their diets were too low in polyunsaturated fats. Also, 250,000 people die each year because their diets are too rich in saturated fats. The team of researchers also estimated that around 537,000 people die each year because they eat too much food that is high in trans fat.
Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum from the Lenox Hill Hospital said that the results of the research are published at a perfect time. She said that in January people are thinking about improving themselves in the new year and diet is on most of the people’s minds. She also said that if people would reduce the intake of the unhealthy fats, they would make big differences in their health. As healthy fats can help you live longer, try to make some changes in your diet. Try to keep in mind that even the small changes count.
