A recent post on Istagram’s site announced on Tuesday that the company has 400 million users, thus managing to overcome Twitter with almost 80 million users.
The five-year-old social network managed to grow more rapidly in the last 3 years than its competitors, Twitter and Snapchat, with users all around the world. 75% of them are outside the U.S., while most of the new users come from areas such as Europe and Asia. Istagram also emphasized that David Beckham, Caitlyn Jenner and footballer Toni Kroos are the most followed personalities on the social network.
“Instagrammers continue to capture incredible photos and videos from all corners of the Earth (and even the solar system),” the post announces.
Since the beginning, it seems that more than 40 billion pictures have been shared on this platform. The number may grow rapidly, taking into consideration the fact that the company intends to launch a number of features such as support for scenery and portrait formats, opening up possibilities for advertising. There’s no surprise it has managed to surpass Twitter, which has 316 million users and, as if that was not enough, now tries to find a lasting CEO.
Earlier in a post, the Instagram revealed that they intend to enlarge opportunities for advertisers, thus offering possibilities for marketing strategies on their network. This would give the advertisers the chance of launching campaigns in wide formats, including videos which can get up to 30 seconds length.
Until now, Instagram, which was acquired by Facebook in 2012, has had only a small number of advertising posts, among which there were popular brands, such as Michael Kors and Adidas.
Instagram will also introduce a new advertising product named Marquee, for films premieres and new products.
Under these circumstances, an estimation made my eMarketer preconizes that Instagram will rapidly hit $600 million.
It seems that Facebook now has control over the most powerful apps. Apart from Instagram, there is also WhatsApp with 900 million users and Messenger, with 700 million users.
