Eat Less Salt To Avoid Nighttime Bathroom Breaks

less salt

Those who consume less salt might make fewer trips to the bathroom every night.

Salt makes every dish tastier. The problem with this ingredient is that it makes you drink more water. It also retains it in your body. This makes you go to the bathroom more times a day. Besides this, many people suffer from another issue: nighttime bathroom breaks.

This problem, also known as nocturia, happens when your bladder is more active than you. It means that you need to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Although it might not seem like a big issue, 1 in 3 adults suffer from it.

Despite the fact that it is more common after the age of 30, younger people can still develop this issue. It is related to the liquid intake, but less salt intake can make it more bearable. Those who consume less salt might make fewer trips to the bathroom every night.

A new study focused on the effects of salt intakes when it comes to nocturia. The research was conducted by Tomohiro Matsuo from Nagasaki University. He observed that there is a link between salt intake and nighttime bathroom trips.

When the 200 people involved in the study ate less salt, they reported fewer bathroom trips at night. The salt intake was reduced from 11 grams a day to 8 grams. When they did so, the rate of bathroom breaks reduced from 2.3 to 1.4 times every night.

This research shows the effects of less salt intake on our body. Healthy decisions make our life better. They can be even more beneficial than we think. The research mentioned that fewer trips to the bathroom might make people feel less tired and stressed since they get a good night’s sleep.

Despite the fact that the findings showed a connection between less salt intake and fewer bathroom trips at night, the researcher mentioned that more studies need to be made on this topic. Due to the fact that this is the first research on this problem, more evidence needs to be found before the result can be confirmed. All in all, the research shows that we need to change some of our lifestyle choices.

What is your opinion about this study? Did you know that eating less salt can be beneficial for your health and wellbeing?
