It seems that Fox is embracing current cinematography trends in its fall TV-series lineup. The network has ordered two brand new dramas that are made to impress viewers of all ages. So get ready for “Minority Report”, the series and for the wickedly thrilling “Lucifer”.
Nowadays the hottest trends in cinematography include wild dystopian future scenarios and comic book characters. Just think about the latest films out there. You have “Interstellar”, “Insurgent”, “The Hunger Games”, “The Maze Runner” and “Oblivion” on one hand and “The Avengers”, “Transformers” and “Batman vs. Superman” on the other.
And slowly but surely, this trend has found its way into the TV series world. The dystopian future ones have always been there somehow, but they have always been viewed from more of a SciFi angle.
Sure, there are gems like “Lost” or “Battlestar Galactica”, who have gathered millions of views before this new wave of end-of-the-world series hit the big screens. But now, shows like HBO’s “The Leftovers” and TNT’s “Falling Skies” are steadily gaining audiences’ attention and apparently, FOX want in on it.
Their plan is to create a spinoff from the 2002 Tom Cruise blockbuster hit “Minority Report”, that is bound to appeal to the millions of fans of the film, who want to see more of the “Pre-Crime” unit.
The action in FOX’s series is set to take place 10 years after the action in the film and it will focus on one of the “Pre-cogs” whom we will see trying to have a normal life.
Naturally, it will not be easy for him to ignore his visions and he will be constantly troubled by them. But they will ultimately be put to good use, when a mysterious detective comes to give him a helping hand.
The series will be produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television in association with Paramount Television. And while Steven Spielberg directed the “Minority Report” film back in 2002, he will have a producer role in the series.
2015’s “Minority report” will star Wilmer Valderrama, that everybody knows and loves as “Fez” from the hit sitcom “That 70s Show” and will also include hot names like Megan Good and Laura Regan.
As for the second FOX series, “Lucifer”, it will be a rendition of some DC comic book characters and the action will revolve around the supreme ruler of the underworld, who one day decides to walk out on the Lake of Fire and moves to Los Angeles. And what better place for the Lord of Darkness to find work then the LA Police Department?
And so, the series will focus on the challenges that Lucifer will face in his day to day LA life and the inventive ways that he will devise for punishing LA criminals. Tom Ellis will take on the role of Lucifer and Laura German and Rachel Harris will play the main female characters of the show.
“Lucifer” will have to face a very popular contender, namely “Daredevil”, that has had unexpected success following its release on Netflix. Other predictable competition that “Lucifer” will have is “iZombie” that had pretty much the same recipe.
Overall, FOX’s fall lineup is looking very good. “Minority report” and “Lucifer” are bound to make viewers tune in for a relaxing hour in a new and exciting world.
