With over 1 billion users active on Facebook, the media mogul just recorded a rise of 40.5% for third-quarter revenue. The mobile business of Facebook was questioned after the company’s 2012 IPO. But the new figures exceeded analyst expectations.
The company now has 1 billion active users, out of which 894 million are mobile users. This comes as no surprise since 78% of the advertising revenue, which is about $4.29 billion comes from mobile use. The number of monthly active users rises up to 1.55 billion. As an assessment, Americans spend one minute out of five using Facebook and Instagram.
Mark Zuckerberg stated that the continued success he received is due to supplying the advertiser demand. He emphasised the commitment of Facebook to virtual reality and Oculus on the long term. However, it will take a while until the company could benefit from the $2 billion invested in the Oculus Rift.
But these were not the only numbers that recorded a spectacular growth. The video views on Facebook have reached the number 8 billion per day. As for Facebook’s smaller platforms, WhatsApp has 900 million active users, Messenger 700 million and Instagram 400. During the quarter, earnings of $0.57 per share have been recorded for the investors.
Sheryl Sandberg, Chief Operating Officer at Facebook declared that growth in the future is most important to emerging markets, and that is what Facebook is looking for.
To be able to observe the sky-rocketing numbers, all we have to do is take a quick look at one of its rivals. For instance, Twitter has a little over 320 million active users.
One of the reasons this might be happening is that more and more people are attracted by the social media platform, as a way to connect with each other, to advertise their creations, but also to boast equally to their enemies and friends. Companies are also using Facebook in order to target certain groups of people. In this way they make sure their advertisements reach the users’ news feed. This especially works on mobile phones.
It seems that nowadays social media is unstoppable, mainly due to our dependence and addiction to it. Witnessing over 1 billion users active on Facebook is surely just one of the many growths we will contribute to.
