Sacramento, California – law officers are still searching for a gunman after one student was shot to death and two others injured in a parking lot near the Sacramento City College campus.
The gunfire occurred at about 4 pm local time. One of the victims was declared dead at the scene by the officials. The second was severely injured and moved to the nearest hospital, where he is expected to survive. The third’s victim injuries were minor, as he was only scratched by a bullet. The third victim was the main witness of the incident and he was the first to be questioned by investigators.
The gunman ran from the scene right after the shooting took place close to the campus baseball field. After the campus and surrounding neighborhoods were cleared by the police, the suspect was still not found, declared Sacramento police Sergent Doug Morse.
One police officer declared that the shooting began as an aftermath of a verbal dispute between the gunman and the victims.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the confrontation between the two groups escalated when the involved parties pulled out a knife and a semi-automatic handgun from their pockets. The police believes that the victim who was shot dead was actively involved in the dispute. Investigators are looking at the possibility of gang involvement.
Two of the three victims were students at Sacramento City College. It hasn’t yet been found whether the shooter has any ties to the college. Last time he was spotted, the suspect was wearing a white T-shirt and camouflage shorts.
Police came at the scene from all direction shortly after the gunfire was reported. The students were told to stay locked in their classrooms. The Sacramento City College campus was off limits for two hours before police swept all the buildings and permitted the staff and students to go home
