Spirituality Works Well For Cancer Patients

Everything starts with the way we perceive reality. All happens in our minds that construct the reality we live in. If our minds are diseased, our bodies become more vulnerable in front of physical diseases. Cancer has been associated with high levels of stress for a long time, which means that the more pressure we throw on our brains, the weaker our bodies get. Scientists note that spirituality works well for cancer patients.

According to new studies, cancer patients who report a strong link with spiritual heights, also experience fewer physical symptoms of cancer and related treatments and more social connection. Spirituality, although it is believed to be an illusion by many agnostics and atheists, helps us better cope with crisis situations and changes our mindset. Everything is connected and if our minds become able to perceive a constructive, optimistic and embrace a better alternative to the harsh reality, bodies react and heal for themselves.

This hypothesis is strengthened by studies and analysis which has involved a list of previous estimations on spirituality, performed on more than 44.000 cancer patients altogether. The approach on studies varied in many ways but religion and spirituality were nevertheless associated with better health, regardless of specific or set of spiritual beliefs.

To believe is to experience and believing in a benevolent power that answers prayers makes cancer sufferers more outgoing and able to maintain relationships. If mental health goes well, cancer has better chances of healing. Poor disposition, sadness and depression makes our bodies lose strength and immerse in territories of hopelessness. It seems that those who believed their illness was punishment from an angry or distant God or who had doubts over their faith fared worse.

However, further studies are needed on the long-term link between religion and health. Researchers are also looking into the possibility of suggesting health-support services that could offer believers religious guidance and better cope with their affection.

Outcomes of the study are as fact-based as they could be, so there is no need for suspicion or raised eyebrows from atheists. Spirituality has a deep impact on our lives first of all and for cancer patients as an extension. More than 32.000 adult cancer patients with a various range of cancer types and stages were assessed. High religious or spirituality scores are mostly associated with better levels of health.

People generally need to cling to something in order to make their lives work and go further. Hopelessness leads to loss, depression, sadness and anguish. Then we slowly fade out and disappear.
