Assuming you haven’t yet, read it here: the sixth Game of Thrones novel won’t be released before the show airs in April. Fans of the novel series might be disappointed as George R.R. Martin announced he missed the extended deadline to hand in the manuscript for The Winds of Winter, the sixth novel of the Game of Thrones series.
For years, readers have been ahead of the HBO show. This may have given rise to a series of conflicts as many spoilers were left hanging around to the disappointment of the HBO show fans. Not any more. With the plot twists differing from the novel series already showing up in the fifth season of Game of Thrones and George R.R. Martin missing the deadline for The Winds of Winter, the fans of the HBO series will not take the lead.
One thing is for sure: the sixth Game of Thrones novel won’t be released before the HBO show comes to the screens in April. The infamous author has written an extensive blog post explaining the circumstances of missing the deadline. He is also adding that The Winds of Winter will be finished when it will be finished. With no precise deadline anywhere in sight, it might take long after the sixth season of the HBO show is finished that the novel hits the bookshelves.
On George R.R. Martin’s website, the blog post states clearly the the sixth novel is not finished. The author apologizes for the disappointment he brought to his readers. More importantly, he adds his agents, publishers, translators and basically everyone waiting for this book is under the weather at the moment. George R.R. Martin included.
“For months now I have wanted nothing so much as to be able to say ‘I have completed and delivered The Winds of Winter on or before the last day of 2015’”.
The first deadline would have seen the sixth novel completed and delivered by the end of October 2015. During a meeting, the publishers extended the deadline until December 2015. The idea was fairly simple. If the manuscript had been handed over until a few days ago, a tour-de-force would have seen The Winds of Winter released prior to April 2016.
Now, it’s all hanging. However, it wouldn’t be wise to suspect George R.R. Martin of slacking. In the same blog post he added that hundreds of pages comprising dozens of chapters are done. Nonetheless, the story is unfurling farther and farther, making the author realize there is still a lot of work to be done. The best clue we have at the moment is that the sixth novel of the Game of Thrones series is still months away from completion.
The characters are pushing the story to new heights. The narrative is intense and The Winds of WInter promises to be a captivating, read in one breath (don’t take that literally) novel. The only problem is that ‘it will be done when it’s done’, in the author’s own words.
