Tasmanian tiger

The Tasmanian tiger was a small animal, with a striped back and a long snout.

More and more species are going extinct. Apparently, one species might have “reappeared”. The Tasmanian tiger, or thylacine, has gone extinct more than 80 years ago. Researchers believed that the last specimen died in 1936 in Hobart Zoo, Tasmania. Despite this fact, the Tasmania tiger was presumably seen by some people.

The Tasmanian tiger was a small animal, with a striped back and a long snout. These animals were the largest carnivorous marsupials. They used to hunt across the island. They extinction was caused by human activity. Until now, more people mentioned that they might have seen a specimen of this species. This new evidence seems to be more plausible and caused researchers to seek the animal.

The animal was seen in northern Queensland. Researchers now believe that some small groups of Tasmanian tigers might have survived and reproduced. This could be the only chance for the species to have lived up until now. Recent sightings have made scientists curious about the “reappearance” of this species.

Researchers from James Cook University are the ones who started the search for the animal. Led by Prof. Bill Laurence, researchers investigated the people who mentioned that they have seen the animal. Both of these people gave a lot of details that matched the description of the animal.

The sighting of the Tasmanian tiger happened at night. The people mentioned that 4 animals appeared out of nowhere. Researchers mentioned that the people who have seen the animal gave a lot of details that match the description of the animal and that are not consistent with other species in that area.

In order to find out if the Tasmanian tiger is back, researchers are going to install more than 50 camera traps. This way they will know for sure if these animals still exist in that area. The leader of the survey is Sandra Abell. She mentioned that the camera survey is the best way to find the animal.

The researchers mentioned that even if they don’t find the animal the research is great. This is because they now have the opportunity to learn more about the animals that live on the peninsula. Let’s hope that the Tasmanian tiger survived somehow and now it is going to be found. The more species, the merrier.
