"password"

The list for the most common passwords of 2015 has been published.

If you’ve ever wondered what passwords does your boyfriend, wife, mother or best friend has, this list might help you make an idea, as these are the 25 most common passwords in 2017.  These passwords come from users in Western Europe and North America.

The list was made from 3.3 million passwords that were leaked during last year. The list was originally made by Splashdata, which is a web security company. The most used password in 2017 is the same password that took the number one place for five years in a row, and if you are not familiar with these types of list, find out that it is 123456. The  word password was again in the top three, as always. The extremely simple password shows that not only many people lack originality, but that their personal information is not very secure and it can be very easily hacked. The new passwords that made the list for the first time were starwars, solo and princess, linked to the Force Awakens movie for sure.

Other obvious and unoriginal passwords that made the list include qwerty, baseball and football. And probably because the latest Star Wars movie was released this December and there are a lot of fans all around the world, the number 25 was occupied by the starwars password. Having such simple passwords means that almost any hacker or person close to you can guess it so after you read this list, make sure to change yours if it is as simple as these are.

According to SplashData, even though the passwords were bad, at least the last year the users tried to make their passwords longer, and thus harder to hack. In the past, the passwords were shorter and especially the ones that contained some characters that are in order on the keyboard. For example, qwertyuiop and 1234567890 have entered the list for the first time and are longer version of the more commonly used qwerty and 123456 passwords. Another new password on the list and that was a bit ingenuous is 1qaz2wsx, which is formed by the first two columns of a regular column.

Here are the 25 most common passwords in 2017,  in the exact order: 123456, password, 12345678,qwerty, 12345, 123456789, football, 1234, 1234567,baseball, welcome, 1234567890, abc123, 111111, 1qaz2wsx, dragon,  master, monkey ,letmein, login ,princess,  qwertyuiop, solo, passw0rd and starwars. If you are one of those people who thinks that having such an easy password means that no one will think of it, think again. And change that password.
