Honey has a large variety of properties.

For thousands of years, people have enjoyed honey and its many benefits. It is believed that the people have seen bears and other animals eating the honey from the bee hives and they tried it as well. The first time a large scale swarm of honey bees has been cultivated was in Israel and ever since the people have enjoyed the many benefits of honey.

Even though nowadays the honey is the product that is consumed from the honey bees, in the past people ate beeswax and honeycombs as well. They are sweet treats ant the beeswax resembles some kind of honey flavored chewing gum. As not even sugar is a sweet as honey, the honey can replace the sugar making it a healthier sweetener for tea, coffee, other beverages and it can be used even in food making. One cup of sugar will equal a cup of honey, if you mean to use honey in your recipes. The sugar contained by the honey is easier to digest than the one found in sugar but remember that honey also has its fair share of calories.

Honey has a hygroscopic property, which means that it can absorb the moisture that is found in the air. Maybe that is the reason why pots full of honey were found in the ancient tombs from Egypt. Honey also has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

In the past, the ancient people used honey in 30% of the medical prescriptions, as it has many medical properties. The Greeks, the Romans and the Egyptians used honey as a way to treat skin and eye diseases. Instead of using coughing syrup you can use honey as it has as many benefits and is more healthy. Also, honey is rich in nutrients, vitamins and minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc and copper.

If you suffer from seasonal allergies then find out that honey is a great reliever. Even though there are no studies to prove this, many people who suffer from these types of allergies use it and some experts believe that honey can fight the seasonal sneezes. Honey can also fight salmonella, E.coli, wounds, short time memory, scalp problems, dandruff, burns, insomnia, anxiety and sore throats.

You can also use honey for beauty treatments like face and hair masks. Be careful because even though there the many benefits of honey, this product can be dangerous to the children under one year old and to the people who suffer from diabetes. The population of wild honey bees is decreasing and we should try to protect them as much as we can because their work is extremely important to the humans.
