Based on the latest studies, Apple watch is rated as the best fitness tracking device on the market, thanks to its excellent accuracy, high-quality, and great design.
A group of researchers from Cleveland Clinic has conducted a survey to find out which wrist-worn heart-rate monitor is the most accurate. Therefore, they used several devices from top brands such as Basis Peak, Mio Alpha, Fitbit Charge HR, and Apple Watch in an extensive trial.
During the study, 50 participants were linked to an electrocardiogram at rest, while walking and running. The results revealed that Apple watch had a 90 percent accuracy in every situation, whereas the others had less than 80 percent overall accuracy.
According to Dr. Gordon Blackburn, Cleveland Clinic cardiac rehabilitation director, all devices are regarded are user-friendly, while they also provided decent results. The problem is that most of them turned out to be inaccurate when the workout program suddenly intensified.
In other words, whatever fitness tracking device you might use, you can never be sure that it will display the accurate information when your heart is racing.
Regarding Apple watch, is it not clear yet whether its accuracy dropped off during strenuous exercise, but scientists came to the conclusion that wrist-worn fitness tracking devices are not equipped with the technology required to accurately display the heart rate.
It is worth mentioning that these wrist-mounted monitors function on optical sensors to measure heart rate so when they are lifted off from the skin, they no longer work well.
Apple officials have recently declared that the in-house heart rate sensor from Apple watch is designed to prevent data inaccuracy which often occurs when the user makes sudden moves or undergoes a vigorous workout program.
This sensor relies on a revolutionary technology known as PPG which uses a sensor array and light emitter to measure blood flow. Apple watch analyses the data from several light guides and with the help of special algorithms, it prevents data anomaly caused by device motion and physiological changes such as contraction and vasculature expansion.
The company plans to advance even further in the medical and health industries using its technological assets. One such example would be to provide rich healthcare data collected by HealthKit.
Also, Apple watch will be enhanced with two additional apps that will measure heart recovery and sleep patterns.
