Apple Launches New TV Guide

Apple is set to reveal their new TV guide during tomorrow’s event.

Apple has plans to unveil the previously leaked version of a new TV guide for users, during a product event tomorrow held in California. The TV guide consists of an app that will provide suggested content to users through links.

According to USA Today, the new TV guide was described to network executives as being similar to a watch list. Apple’s idea is to make it easier for users to find their preferred content without switching between various apps and channels. Instead, the new TV guide will aggregate all the content and make it available to the users via deep links. One example of the app’s feature is that subscribers to FX Networks will be encouraged to watch the new Atlanta dramatic series.

This new Watch List TV guide will be available on the Apple TV but also on a variety of iOS devices including the iPhone and iPad. However, not all major TV content providers will be included in app’s recommended content. According to several sources close to the project, Netflix’s content won’t be part of the new app despite close collaboration between the companies in the past.

The new Watch List or what its official name will be when it has been officially revealed will use the new single sign-on feature that Apple previously announced at the WorldWide Developers Conference. The service will require users to only sign-in once with their paid TV subscription information in order to access the content in all the apps that support the feature. This saves users a bit of time and effort as currently, they must log-in separately for every app.

Content providers who are participating in Apple’s new TV guide will be able to enjoy the promotion of their new shows. This is especially beneficial to them because it seems that old programming tricks to promote them don’t work in the digital world of watching TV.

Overall, the app will function as a universal search for your preferred type of content provided by companies that collaborated with Apple in this new endeavor. At this time, it’s unclear how it will be any different than the search option offered by Amazon or why Netflix isn’t included. More information will be available tomorrow as it will be revealed during the event.
