As people in the U.S. begin the tax season, Walmart launched a first of its kind new service that gives consumers the opportunity to “skip the check” and receive their refunds in cash.
Walmart Direct2Cash will be available nationwide beginning January 20 and will help consumers save money and time when compared to traditional options for tax refunds.
Walmart has joined forces with Tax Products Group in Direct2Cash that will give an option to millions to receive cash.
There will be over 25,000 locations preparing tax refunds using the Direct2Cash option. It is not clear if the option for cash will have a charge of no more than $7 per refund or if it will be free.
When customers in Walmart claim their refund at Walmart, no extra fee is charged.
The option of Direct2Cash by Walmart will offer customers a secure and convenient way to receive their tax refund when compared to receiving a check.
Many times, government issued refund checks are stolen, mishandled or lost, which can cause weeks and even months of delays before funds are finally received.
The Direct2Cash option is a one-stop, secure cash pickup that reduces the possibility of a number of problems related to refunds received in the form of checks.
Americans choosing the new option offered by Walmart can save on paying fees when compared the options of check cashing. If a consumer has a federal tax fund of $3,000 and goes to a business that provides check cashing services who charge a fee of 2% the cost would be $60 to have the check cashed.
There could also be a processing fee of $20 charged to have a refund check issued.
When the new Direct2Cash option is chosen, the consumer will receive their own confirmation code for their tax return via an email when the refund is ready to be picked up.
Customers then can go to the MoneyCenter at Walmart and present their confirmation code, confirm their identity and receive their full refund in the form of cash.
