After being treated by one of United Kingdom’s best surgeons, a 58-year old woman, Lucinda Methuen-Campbell, took her own life. The doctor, who is now under investigation by the NHS, removed both of her ovaries because they were supposedly “getting in the way”. The doctor, Anthony Dixon, built an international reputation for his ability to use mesh implants to fix bowel issues. Back in 2016, he saw the woman at a private hospital for this same problem. Dixon, who has so far been suspended from two Bristol hospitals, told the woman that he removed her ovaries during the surgeries because they were bothering him.
He inserted a vaginal mesh implant to fix her bowel problem, as he also did with other patients. The problem was that the procedure left Methuen-Campbell in agony. Later, someone found her hanged in the attic because she could no longer bear the enormous pain. According to her ex-partner, Philip Chatfield, she suffered from severe pain and nobody seemed to know how to get rid of it. The 2016 surgery was a complete failure and caused her to live in agony. She also had a follow-up surgery later, but this one made things even worse.
Woman kills herself after surgeon removes her ovaries
After the initial surgery, the woman said that the surgeon never told her that he was going to remove her ovaries. Not that she would have liked that, but she would have been “vaguely prepared”. At the time, she didn’t want to blame the doctor because he was right that a woman her age wouldn’t need her ovaries anymore.
Her and Mr. Chatfield’s son, Angus, found his mother hanged in the attic and called his father. It seems that the huge pain that she was in affected her mental health, which led to her taking her own life.
