Yahoo Messenger App

Yahoo bets everything on their new messaging app

Yahoo Messenger App comes to bring back to live the most popular messaging program of the 2000s. The old Yahoo Messenger will finally be retired and a new, modern app comes to take its place.

The Yahoo Messenger app resembles other messaging apps like WhatsApp, Viber of Facebook Messenger. You can log in with your phone number or your old Yahoo Mail account and it will scan your contacts to find you friends who are also using the application. If you sign in to the account you once used for Yahoo Messenger, the old contacts will appear as well.

What the new Yahoo Messenger brings to the world of messaging apps is a built-in GIF search and a feature that helps you share a huge number of photos in a very short time. People who already tried the app claim that they could send 25 photos in just one second. To make that possible, Yahoo uses the cloud system so basically when you upload or download photos, you are just streaming them from the cloud.

But the best part of using the server instead of your phone’s memory is that Yahoo Messenger App allows you to delete or unsend the messages you’ve sent without leaving any trace. This means no more messages send by mistake to other people or at least no more proof of it.

Another interesting feature is the possibility of group chatting, which allows you not only to chat with more people at the same time, but also lets you create groups in those groups, or side-threads. These will also be created when someone comments on a GIF or a photo posted in the conversation.

Yahoo Messenger App won’t be just an Android or iOS application, but also an add-on to Yahoo Mail that will work on your desktop computer the same way in which Google Hangouts works within Gmail.

The app uses expertise and tech from other 10 companies but its most important features are based on three of them – Flickr for photos, Tumblr for the huge library of GIFs and Xobni for contacts.

The future plans of Yahoo Company include adding more interesting features in updates to Yahoo Messenger App but also integrating it into more of their services and products. Their target is to reach one hundred million users.
