The new feature for creating GIFs is available on the Tumblr App.
As the hype for moving pictures doesn’t seem to slow down, you can now create GIFs on Tumblr. GIFs, which comes from graphics interchange format, have become extremely popular lately, and are especially used as reactions on websites such as 9GAG or Facebook.
The option of communicating with your friends through such moving pictures was launched this year on Facebook and has received positive reviews. The same happened last summer on Twitter. And now we can expect this feature on other social media platforms.
Tumblr supports GIF files, but users had to use other applications to create such material, and only then publish it to the blogging platform. Well, that was until now. The company just introduced a GIF maker tool for its iOS application, which is also planned to come to Android devices in the future. Tumblr announced their update through a post, writing that in spite of the success of GIFs, people have a hard time actually making them. This new tool will allow them to create, edit and post the moving pictures directly to Tumblr.
It is also quite simple to use. Users just need to open a photo post, pick a burst or a video and edit it. Among the editing options we can find zooming, trimming, cropping, changing the speed of the GIF or making it loop or play forwards or backwards. You can even make a photoset of images and make it into a GIF. The last step is of course, sharing your creation with the world.
Tumblr previously created a feature for finding the perfect GIF to put your post in the spotlight.
The company also advised to keep your GIFs short, as they will look better and also don’t forget to check out bursts which do produce very nice looking moving pictures.
On the iOS market there is a special app for creating GIFs named DSCO. Produced by Visual Supply Co. it has similar features, allowing you to capture, share and edit such material.
It is expected that the new feature will be well received by the public, as it has happened on other media platforms. GIFs seem to be the best way of capturing our emotions and reactions and are the best method of expressing ourselves on the Internet while being understood by everybody. As you can now create GIFs on Tumblr, make the most out of it and most importantly: have fun!
