Apps are entertaining and apps make our lives easier by revealing new ways in which we can manage our daily chores. Heart rate monitors, sleep monitoring trackers, activity apps, game apps, beauty, lifestyle, direction apps, maps, you can find everything in the app store at a tap’s distance. But the thing is, once an app becomes outdated, you instantly feel the urge to upgrade it with another, buy another or even replace it. All the upgrades make your smartphone run low on resources and there you go, you must buy another. Long live consumerism!
Google has some good news if you don’t like having too many pre-installed Google apps on your Android phone. According to official declarations, Android smartphones will be manufactured with fewer preinstalled apps.
Although anyone can create a phone or a tablet with the open source version of Android, for a Google Android device, hardware makers must agree to a list of Google’s licensing rules, which basically dictate certain Google apps to be pre-installed and shown prominently.
To make things easier on consumers, Google has dropped four apps from the list that phone makers must install in order to get access to Google’s Play app store. Google+ will be off and that’s quite a good piece of news, as truth is that too few of us relate to the giant’s social network. Google Newsstand, Google Play Games and Google Play Books are all off the list of pre-installed apps of Android devices as well.
Google tries to stick to the important features one needs, the ones that are rather related to productivity and efficiency and not tied to the entertaining and leisure time aspects of life. Google is shortening the list to e-mail, calendar and the Play app store, as officials from the company have noted.
Easing the pre-installment of apps on Android phones doesn’t mean the apps will completely disappear from Google’s offer list. All will be regularly updated and made available for download through Google Play Store.
For device manufacturers, the news come as a great benefit, opening up the opportunity to offer and reveal their own apps and features to be front and center. The great advantage to Android device owners is that they have more choices in what is and isn’t installed on their tablets and handsets.
Furthermore, as Google has declared, Android, the world’s most popular mobile operating system, has lowered its prices and has increased choices for consumers.
