According to the latest statement made by Uber Technologies, you can now schedule rides on Uber. The company has decided to come back on its “no scheduling” policy seeing as more and more people were asking for the option.
Yesterday, Uber Technologies announced that it is going to allow its Seattle users to schedule rides for as much as 30 days in advance. For the moment, the company is only testing this feature in Seattle, but if all goes well, they will expand to all of the American cities.
Travis Kalanick first stated in September that the company was not planning to offer a “Schedule” option. The Chief Executive of Uber was firm with his decision saying that he planned to make the company so reliable that users wouldn’t even consider the need of scheduling a ride with the company.
“Do you schedule time with your shower? You don’t think about planning time with your shower. You just turn the faucet, and it works,” Kalanick declared back then.
However, after months of receiving constant scheduling requests, the CEO changed his mind and decided to offer this option to the users. “The voice that speaks the loudest at Uber is that of the consumer,” the man declared.
The loud voice was asking for a scheduling option, and it’s only normal seeing as the majority of times one needs an Uber is when an individual gets off work. That means five when half the city heads home. And more and more are using alternative means of transportation rather than their personal vehicle.
Another pertinent explanation for the fact that you can now schedule rides on Uber may be the fact that Lyft, the Facebook-connected rival company, had implemented the Schedule feature last month. At Lyft, you can book a car with up to 24 hours in advance.
At first, only Seattle users owning business accounts will be able to access the new option. If you don’t have a business account, but want to try out the new feature, you can always add your work email address to your existing profile.
For the moment, only UberX users will be benefiting from the app, but the company is hoping to expand the feature for UberBlack and UberPool.
Seeing as you can now schedule rides on Uber, how does that make you feel about the company? Do they seem more reliable now? Let us know in the comment section below.
