Flexible displays might be the new thing in technology. This is why companies are building flexible OLED displays. Apparently, they have their first competitor. Japan Display Inc announced that they just built a flexible LCD display.
The company mentioned that they are the first rivals to the companies that produce OLED flexible displays. This company is actually made by 3 big tech companies. The companies that partnered in order to create Japan Display are Toshiba, Hitachi, and Sony.
These companies also announced that they are going to develop non-folding displays, but they are focusing on the flexible LCD because it is an innovation. This announcement shows that the display market is very competitive.
Another thing that can be noticed about this flexible LCD display is that it might not be as expensive as the OLED ones. This is because it uses plastic instead of glass. Although some people might not be pleased with the fact that it is made from plastic, it might make the screen more flexible and resistant.
All of these with a better price too because plastic is cheaper than glass. Of course, the company announced the low price of this display and focused on this. Tech experts believe that these flexible LCD displays are going to be put on low budget smartphones.
This means that they are going to produce budged-friendly smartphones that are going to have folding or curved displays. This is going to be an innovation on this market because until now all the flexible OLED displays were extremely expensive and were put on expensive smartphones. This market targeted people who afford this type of luxury.
Japan Display Inc does exactly the opposite by providing cheap flexible displays that can be put on less expensive phones so that everybody can enjoy them. They are trying to gain popularity by making a device that can be afforded by everybody. This way they will make more money from more people instead of having only a few buyers.
Let’s hope that the display is going to be great and that they are also going to make an appropriate smartphone for this flexible LCD display. We’ll wait and see the devices made by Japan Display Inc.
