Alzheimer’s is a mental disorder that is usually developed when a person is over 50 years old. A lot of people suffer from this disease and out of those many develop dementia. Alzheimer’s is a serious disease that should be treated as such.
There is not a certain treatment for Alzheimer’s but researchers have made some studies which show that there might be some ways to ease the symptoms or to even treat the disorder. In the last few years, the rate of people who develop this condition has declined, but this is not enough.
Researchers have been trying to find a cure for this condition and now there is hope. This new research discovered that flickering light could treat the condition. They mentioned that this is not a safe treatment and that they don’t know if it is effective for people, too.
In order to conduct this study, they used mice which suffered from this condition. They observed that flickering light could help them get rid of the symptoms that occur when a person has this condition. They mentioned that this was only tested on mice and that it is not sure yet.
The leader of the study mentioned that they need to make more tests in order to be sure that this could help people too. This treatment could only work for mice. They still believe that there is a change for the flickering light therapy to work for people too.
This is a great discovery because this could become a non-invasive and accessible cure for the mental condition. This means that people will finally be able to get rid of this problem.
Despite the fact that researchers mentioned that some previous treatments worked for mice and not for humans, they believe that this might be different. In order to conduct this study, mice were exposed to flickering light to stimulate their brain activity. Once this happened, the mice did not show the same levels of beta amyloid.
Beta-amyloid is the one responsible for this condition. This means that the symptoms of Alzheimer’s were reduced significantly. Researchers mentioned that the levels of beta amyloid decreased with more than 50%.
In order to consider this a safe treatment for people too, researchers need to test the flickering light on humans, too. After conducting a series of tests, they will be sure if this treatment could indeed treat people with Alzheimer’s.
