Jacob Beckley decided to row 65 miles across Lake Michigan to raise money for childhood cancer research. He is the leader of an organization that wants to raise awareness regarding cancer prevention and research. The journey will start from St. Joseph, Chicago. He hopes that he will manage to finish the journey in one day.
Beckley’s organization is called Row for a Cure and its main goal is to raise money for one of the most common forms of pediatric cancer, called neuroblastoma. What is very interesting is that he built the boat that he will row across Lake Michigan. On the vessel, he decided to write the name of 100 children who had cancer and die because of it.
Beckley said he will think of all the kids who have died and are fighting during those 24 hours on the boat. All the money he will raise will go to Lurie Children’s Hospital, Chicago. If you want to help him, you can make a donation at GoFundMe.com/Row4Acure.
What he is going to do is a wonderful thing for all those children who suffer from cancer and for their families. Jacob Beckley hopes that crossing the Lake Michigan for cancer research will make people pay more attention to this disease.
Cancer touched a lot of lives and there were few people who managed to survive it. Most of them did not have the money to do the treatment or they found out too late that they are sick. Investing money in new technology and research can make a huge difference. Researchers have tried for years to find a cure for cancer, but it seems that the best option we have at the moment is radiotherapy.
It is so hard for the parents to discover that their child has cancer. Most adults who get sick are related to exposure to an unhealthy factor, such as smoking. However, things are different when it comes to childhood cancer. It seems that most of the times it involves a genetic issue. That is why we need more money for research. We need to understand it better and find ways to treat this disease.
We are hoping that more people will follow Beckley’s example and take action against cancer. There are a lot of ways to raise money and help those children who are fighting their most difficult battle.
