A Milwaukee man has been accused of planning a masonic temple shooting, and his arraignment has been scheduled for this afternoon.
The hearing will take place at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, and the defendant is 23-year old Samy Mohamed Hamzeh, a former trainer at the 9 Round kickboxing and fitness center.
Hamzeh was apprehended by law enforcement on January 25, after attempting to purchase a silencer and 2 machine guns from alleged firearm dealers who turned out to be FBI agents working undercover. The suspect was immediately accused of unlawful possession of weapons, and taken into custody.
However, it appears he may soon face more serious charges, given the fact that it’s now believed that he had intended to fire the machine guns into the crowd gathered at a Masonic temple, committing a mass shooting guaranteed to stir spirits worldwide.
Apparently, Hamzeh has been closely monitored by the FBI since September 2015, given that at the time he was believed to be plotting a strike against Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
Eventually, the young man changed his mind and allegedly decided to organize a terrorist attack right in Milwaukee, at a local meeting place for the Masonic lodge. Hamzeh then shared this murderous plot with a couple of people who were in fact confidential informants for the FBI.
All the talks that the two FBI sources had with the suspect were taped and translated from Arabic without the man’s knowledge ever since October, and that’s how it was possible to collect substantial evidence regarding the Masonic temple shooting that Hamzeh had been orchestrating.
As revealed by representatives of the U.S. Department of Justice, Hamzeh was heard saying that he would die happily if he could murder at least 30 people during the terrorist attack.
The ex gym trainer was also recorded telling his supposed accomplices that he was hoping that causing so many casualties would result in extensive media coverage, so that news regarding the terrorist attack would reach the all the world’s Mujahideen (Islamic guerilla fighters participating in the jihad).
Allegedly, Hamzeh was seeking not just the praise and recognition of these jihadists following the temple shooting, but also the outrage of the rest of the world, so that Muslims and Christians can be further divided.
On January 19, the suspect and his two supposed sidekicks took some major steps in planning the terrorist attack, by indulging in target shooting at a local gun range, and by visiting the Masonic temple, in order to get more familiar with its interior.
More discussions were held in Arabic about the upcoming temple shooting, Hamzeh appearing extremely eager to materialize his plans in order to spur more tension and violence between members of the two religious groups.
Luckily, everything was nipped in the bud when law enforcement eventually arrested the conspirator, initially booking him into Waukesha County Jail. In the meantime, the defendant has been transferred to Kenosha County Jail, where he remains behind bars, as court proceedings continue.
Hamzeh’s defense attorney Ronnie Murray has recently declared that during the trial great emphasis will be placed on proving that the conversations held in Arabic were actually improperly translated, and that the two FBI sources significantly manipulated the talks, steering them in a direction that was never intended by the defendant.
