Everyone who looks at Ferdinand Georg Waldmuller’s “The Expected One”1850 painting sees a girl walking down a path while a man is waiting to offer her some flowers. According to experts, there is nothing unusual about it. The characters are wearing typical Sunday church clothes, which also gave the painting its second name, “Sunday Morning”. However, some social media users have been analyzing the painting and they have found a seemingly disturbing detail. Could this painting finally reveal the existence of time travel?
The woman from the painting appears to be walking and looking at a bizarre rectangular object which definitely resembles an iPhone. She almost mimics the movement we all do nowadays when we are walking down the streets with our eyes glued to our phones. Retired Glasgow local government officer Peter Russell even made fun of the situation and said that the woman was on some kind of dating app.
Time travel in a painting?
However, Russell is also the one who destroyed everybody’s wild dreams of time travel. According to him, the woman in the painting is most likely looking at her hymn book, not a dating app. And he could be right, as the rectangular object also resembles a small book.
However, Russell pointed towards another alarming fact that people nowadays seem to be obsessed about. He said that the influence technology has on us has become so strong that we have begun seeing it even in places where it didn’t exist. This is not the first case of an old painting or photo that people have claimed it shows time travel.
He also explained that in the 1850, anyone who would have looked at the painting would have instantly recognized the object in her hands as a prayer book. However, technology has changed us so much that we see it everywhere and find it unthinkable to not have it.
