The popular Soylent bars have been recalled when several people got sick after eating them. The company has ceased any sales of the food bar and told customers to either discard the product or return it.
The recall of the Soylent bars was issued after the company received reports from various customers about getting sick after they consumed the product. The reports included illnesses such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
According to Soylent, they already have begun investigations to determine the problem with the bars and the overall cause of the illnesses. As of yet, Soylent has not figured out why this is happening. However, they can confirm that their drink and powder products are not causing any customers to get sick. The recall of the Soylent bars is at this point only a precaution.
The Soylent bars were released in August for $2 and marketed as a convenient and complete nutritional substitute. At this point, it isn’t entirely clear how many people have gotten sick after eating the bars, but clearly, there were enough cases to determine Soylent to act. The company has halted all purchases and shipments of the Soylent bars and they advising the customers who already purchased one to discard them or return it.
Soylent bars contain a large list of ingredients including allergens like soy and gluten. These could very well increase the risk of sickness if people are not aware of what the bars contain. Other ingredients include soy protein isolate, corn syrup, oat flour, canola oil, whole algae flour, and more.
Soylent has announced that they will be reaching out to customers via e-mail to offer them a full refund. According to Gizmodo, other customers who suffered from severe dehydration are asking Soylent to compensate them for their emergency room bills. They are even willing to sue the company if their demands are not met. Others have only grown slightly more cautious in consuming the bars as they haven’t personally been affected by any sickness. They are waiting for a few weeks to see what made the other people sick in the first place.
Have you eaten any Soylent bars? If so, have you fallen ill with any particular symptoms?
